"To ensure water security and address potential water scarcity issues, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is undertaking a large-scale overhaul of the water sector in strategic areas. This includes developing a comprehensive plan for Kazakhstan's water industry from 2024 to 2028.

The plan encompasses several initiatives, notably the construction of new reservoirs for storing melt and flood waters, the renovation of 15 existing reservoirs, and upgrades to over 14,000 kilometers of irrigation canals. Additionally, the plan includes comprehensive inspections of hydraulic structures and the implementation of water-saving irrigation technologies," the statement from the ministry reads.

According to the source, the Comprehensive Plan until 2028 includes the construction of 40 new reservoirs and the development of design and estimate documentation for 3 additional reservoirs.
