Turkey reveals increased output from Sakarya gas field in Black Sea

(MENAFN) Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced significant developments regarding the Sakarya gas field in the Black Sea, stating that daily production has reached 5.5 million cubic meters. Speaking on Turkish Channel 7, Bayraktar highlighted that this output will effectively meet the natural gas demands of approximately 2.4 million homes across Turkey.

Bayraktar expressed optimism about further production increases, predicting that by August, daily output from the Sakarya field will rise to 6 million cubic meters. Looking ahead, the minister outlined ambitious plans to ramp up production to 10 million cubic meters per day by early 2025.

The Turkish Petroleum Corporation initially discovered 320 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Sakarya field in August 2020. Subsequent exploration efforts and assessments have led to significant updates in reserve estimates. By June 2021, additional reserves totaling 135 billion cubic meters were identified, bringing the total natural gas reserves in the Black Sea to 540 billion cubic meters. Following further evaluations in December 2022, conducted by the independent firm DeGolyer & MacNaughton, the reserve estimate was revised upward to 652 billion cubic meters. Additionally, a new discovery of 58 billion cubic meters was reported, increasing the total discovered reserve in the Black Sea to 710 billion cubic meters.
