The figures indicate a notable increase of 10.31 percent compared to the same period last year, highlighting the city's growing popularity as a global tourist destination.

In May alone, Istanbul recorded 1.7 million foreign travelers, marking an 11.48 percent rise from the previous year and setting a new record for the month of May. The influx of visitors was led by arrivals from Russia, followed by Germany, the United States, and Iran, underscoring Istanbul's diverse appeal across international markets.

Separate data from the ministry revealed that Türkiye as a whole welcomed 15.8 million foreign visitors from January to May, representing a 12.47 percent increase year-on-year. This growth reflects Türkiye's ongoing efforts to attract tourists and position itself as a leading destination in global tourism.

Looking ahead, Türkiye aims to achieve ambitious tourism targets for the year, aiming for 60 million foreign tourists and USD60 billion USD in tourism revenue. These goals underscore Türkiye's strategic focus on tourism as a key economic driver, leveraging its rich cultural heritage, vibrant cities like Istanbul, and diverse natural attractions to attract visitors from around the world.
