Vice leader claims that Taiwan is acquiring from Ukraine

(MENAFN) Taiwan's Vice President, Hsiao Bi-khim, recently emphasized the island's strategic preparations amidst rising geopolitical tensions, drawing parallels with Ukraine's defense tactics against Russia. Speaking at a Chatham House event in London, Bi-khim underscored Taiwan's proactive stance in reforming and decentralizing its military command structure. She highlighted the adoption of nimble combat strategies observed in Ukraine as pivotal in Taiwan's defense posture, aimed at enhancing agility and adaptability.

Bi-khim expressed concerns over Beijing's assertive stance towards Taiwan, emphasizing Taiwan's commitment to bolstering its defense capabilities in response to perceived threats of annexation and destabilization. She cited measures including a significant increase in defense spending, extending mandatory military service, and prioritizing new arms acquisitions as critical steps influenced by Ukraine's experiences. These initiatives, according to Bi-khim, are aimed at fortifying Taiwan's ability to swiftly respond to potential military aggressions and hybrid operations from authoritarian regimes.

In her remarks, Bi-khim highlighted the broader implications of hybrid warfare, encompassing political influence, cyber-intrusion, economic coercion, and military intimidation. She stressed Taiwan's readiness to confront such multifaceted threats through strategic reforms and international cooperation.

The vice president's statements underscore Taiwan's evolving defense doctrine in the face of complex regional dynamics, positioning the island nation amidst global scrutiny and strategic recalibration.
