Ukraine starts utilizing German arms to attack Russian regions

(MENAFN) According to a recent report from Bild, Ukraine has begun employing German-manufactured Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled guns to conduct military strikes on Russian soil. The tabloid detailed that these artillery systems, known for their range of up to 40 kilometers, have been deployed by the Ukrainian armed forces in the Kharkov Region, near the border with Russia.

Bild's correspondent, who visited the operational area, described how the German howitzers are strategically concealed in dugouts within wooded areas. When orders are given by commanders, the artillery crews move the Panzerhaubitze 2000 from their hidden positions to designated firing spots, conduct several shots, and swiftly retreat to cover. The report highlighted that this operational method is necessitated by the threat posed by Russian surveillance drones.

During interactions with Ukrainian soldiers, the Bild journalist noted their challenges, including the intense heat inside the Panzerhaubitze 2000 leading to the malfunctioning of certain components. The troops reportedly expressed surprise upon learning from the correspondent that more modern variants of the artillery are equipped with air conditioning systems.

The deployment of German weaponry by Ukraine marks a significant development following Germany's decision in late May to authorize Kiev's use of supplied arms for defensive operations, including cross-border strikes from the Kharkov Region into Russian territory. This move underscores Ukraine's efforts to resist and counter Russian military advances in the region, amid ongoing conflict and geopolitical tensions.

The utilization of Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled guns represents a strategic enhancement for Ukrainian forces, enabling them to engage effectively at a distance while adapting to the operational challenges posed by modern warfare, including technological countermeasures deployed by adversaries.
