3 German aviation experts arrive in Malawi to start investigation in military plane crash

(MENAFN) A delegation comprising three German aviation experts has arrived in Malawi to commence an independent investigation into the recent military plane crash that tragically claimed the life of Vice President Saulos Chilima and eight others on June 10. Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu confirmed to a Turkish news agency that their arrival follows President Lazarus Chakwera's appeal to the international community for an impartial inquiry into the incident.

Kunkuyu emphasized the delegation's autonomy from the Malawian government, assuring that they will have unrestricted access to the crash site, individuals, institutions, and any resources necessary for their investigation. Notably, given that the military plane involved was manufactured in Germany, Kunkuyu highlighted the expertise of the German team in determining the precise causes of the crash.

The call for an independent investigation has been echoed across various sectors of Malawian society, reflecting a widespread desire for transparency and accountability regarding the tragic event. Kunkuyu reiterated the government's commitment to facilitating the experts' inquiry to uncover the truth behind the crash, which claimed the lives of several prominent figures.

Meanwhile, Malawi's Public Affairs Committee (PAC), a quasi-religious organization, has cautioned against governmental interference in the investigation. PAC spokesperson Rev. Gilford Matonga emphasized the critical nature of the probe's findings for national integrity, stressing that any compromise in the process could undermine the investigation's credibility and public trust.
