Cargo Vehicles Now Allowed Cross-Border Movement At Torkham Under New Agreement

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) Cargo vehicles have been granted entry into Afghanistan under the Temporary Admission Documents (TAD) agreement, allowing them to seamlessly pass through the Pak-Afghan Torkham border.

Customs sources report that vehicles carrying goods, along with drivers, helpers, and cleaners, can now travel freely between Pakistan and Afghanistan through the Torkham border under the TAD agreement. This agreement aims to facilitate smoother trade and transit between the two countries.

Torkham customs authorities have confirmed that the registration for the TAD agreement commenced on May 1, 2024. Currently, 16 vehicles have been registered at the Torkham border, 18 at the Ghulam Khan border, with three crossing through Torkham and one through Ghulam Khan.

Currently, the TAD agreement covers only exports and imports. The agreement will be expanded to include transit in the second phase, starting in May 2025.

Before this agreement, Afghan vehicles were restricted to traveling only as far as Peshawar. However, under the TAD agreement, Afghan vehicles can now operate throughout Pakistan.

To register for TAD, the following documents are required: ID cards of the vehicle owner, driver, and conductor, along with their mobile numbers, licenses, and photographs. The registration process is quick for those with complete and accurate documentation. The registration fee is set at $100.

It's important to note that the registration deadline has been extended to June 15.
