Both Countries' Leadership Opt For Early Withdrawal Of Russian Peacekeepers From Azerbaijani Territory - Official


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 17. The leadership ofboth countries has made a decision on the early withdrawal ofRussian peacekeepers from the territory of Azerbaijan, saidAssistant of the President of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign PolicyAffairs Department of the Presidential Administration HikmetHajiyev, Trend reports.

Hajiyev made the statement in response to a question from localmedia regarding the information about the withdrawal of Russianpeacekeepers from Azerbaijan.

"The early withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers, temporarilystationed in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, inaccordance with the trilateral statement signed on November 10,2020, has been decided by the leaders of both countries. Theprocess has already begun, with the ministries of defense ofAzerbaijan and Russia implementing appropriate measures for theexecution of that decision," he said.

To note, Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitriy Peskov hasconfirmed the withdrawal of the Russian peacekeeping contingentfrom Karabakh.

Last afternoon, footage of the withdrawal of military equipmentbelonging to the Russian peacekeeping contingent from Azerbaijansurfaced on social media, but no official comments were made on thematter.

On April 10, Russian peacekeepers left the Khudavang monasterycomplex in Kalbajar. Currently, the Khudavang monastery is guardedby Azerbaijani police.
