Chinese health officials caution of growing respiratory issues in winter


(MENAFN) Chinese health officials issued a warning on Monday about the potential severity of respiratory issues in the upcoming winter season and outlined strategies to address the challenges. Mi Feng, spokesperson for the National Health Commission, emphasized the need to strengthen monitoring and early warning systems to closely track the prevalence of diseases such as mycoplasma pneumoniae, COVID-19, flu, dengue, and norovirus infections.

Wang Dayan, the head of the Chinese National Influenza Center under the National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention, shared monitoring data indicating a rise in flu activities in both southern and northern regions of China. He highlighted that the dominant flu strain currently observed is H3N2.

Wang underscored the importance of vaccination as the most effective and economical method to prevent infectious diseases. Additionally, she called on the public to adopt a healthy lifestyle as a proactive measure against respiratory illnesses. The announcement reflects the proactive approach of Chinese health authorities in preparing for the potential health challenges associated with the winter season.
