Doha, Qatar: The Philippine School Doha (PSD) held its 31st founding anniversary on its school grounds and gymnasium on October 6 with the theme,“Thriving the Culture of Service and Excellence: A Legacy to Bear and Share.”
Hosted by the Preschool Department through the leadership of its Vice-Principal, Dr. Nida H. Garcia, this year's celebration eyes the rehabilitation of the school's open court through its major projects namely: Preschool Families Together As One, Greeting Tarp Project, A Walk to Remember Portraits of Legacy: Painting Competition and Art Exhibition, Search for Preschool Prince and Princess 2023, My Sports Idol Team Edition.
Among the said projects, a painting contest slated as“A Walk to Remember” was held prior to the anniversary celebration, where participants were tasked to depict significant people and milestones in PSD's 31 years through a painting.
The following winners were awarded during the ceremony: Category A - Junior High School and Senior High School: Paula Franzhely N. Tolentino (Champion), Cassandra Marie C. Peralta (1st Runner-up), and Albert Gerard R. Bautista (2nd Runner-up).
Meanwhile in Category B - PSD Teachers, Staff, and Alumni: Albertha Naomi F. Formaran (Champion), Rogsh Emmanuel H. Garcia (1st Runner-up), and Anna Marie J. Garcia (2nd Runner-up). Category C - PSD Parents and Guardians: Sheila M. Cabral (Champion), Jasper C. Cabral (1st Runner-up), and Dennis I. Marin (2nd Runner-up). People's Choice Award: Makaila Kierstine G. Sampuang, Carl Andrew P. Fami, Megelle B. Mendoza (Category A); Precioso L. Tano, Kayumanggi L. Monsanto, Rogsh Emmanuel H. Garcia, and Albertha Naomi F. Formaran (Category B).
Moreover, plaques of appreciation were also given to various individuals by Preschool Vice-Principal, Dr. Nida H. Garcia; School Principal, Dr. Alexander S. Acosta; and Board of Trustees Chairman, Arch. Melito M. Gomez.
Special Awards were given to: Nestor C. Doron, Jr. (theme proponent), Beverly Ann V. Presingcula (logo designer), Adrian G. Borromeo (logo replica maker), Rogsh Emmanuel H. Garcia (“Three Decades and One” lyricist), Tristian Mar D. Awit (songster), Ailene A. Belarmino (songstress), Dexter De Lara Tumang (composer), Eugene Nick R. Parpana (music arranger), and Edwin S. Eco (recording engineer).
Dr. Acosta in her speech acknowledged the existence of the school, stating:“PSD not only provides quality education to our students, but it also builds a community. It is a home away from home.” During the programme held at the Edgar V. Bondoc Gymnasium, Arch. Melito Gomez, and Consul General Cassandra Sawadjaan, on behalf of Ambassador of Philippines to Qatar, H E Lillibeth Pono, rendered their messages emphasising the heritage of PSD.
Two of PSD's pioneer students, Albert Leo Morales and Jennifer Ann Bondoc were featured as special guests in the programme who shared their experiences in PSD as well as the lessons that helped them overcome the trials they faced.
“What started as a need by the founding parents and community, slowly turned into a dream that thrived into the PSD that we all know, love, and see today,” Bondoc said.
The attendees also witnessed a thematic presentation, comprised of performances from the Glee Club, HIYAW Chorale, Primary Dance Club, Intermediate Dance Club, Junior-Senior Dance Club, Philippine Independence Day performers, HIYAW Dance Troupe, and Drama Club-promoting the history, heritage, and achievements of PSD. Joining the performers were the 50 candidates for the Preschool Prince and Princess who were introduced to the crowd.
