(MENAFN- Live Mint) "Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his son Abdullah Azam were moved to different jails on Sunday, said officials, adding that Khan has been shifted to Sitapur district jail, while his son in Hardoi district jail.
Speaking to PTI, Director General of Prisons SN Sabat said,“The father-son duo was taken to the jails in separate police vehicles with adequate security cover. Both of them stepped out of Rampur jail at around 4:40 am and reached their destinations at around 9 am.\"While leaving Rampur jail, Khan told reporters that \"anything\" could happen to him and his son and they could be killed in an encounter, PTI reported.
When police personnel asked Khan to sit in the middle of the rear seat of the SUV in which he was being taken to Sitapur jail, the SP leader urged them to let him take the window seat.\"I will not be able to sit in the middle,\" Khan was heard telling police citing back-related problems. The personnel obliged Khan was earlier lodged at Sitapur jail for almost two years in multiple cases before being released in May 2022, after getting bail from the Supreme Court week, Rampur court in Uttar Pradesh convicted Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan, his wife Tazeen Fatima, and son Abdullah Azam in a 2019 fake birth certificate case. The court also sentenced them to seven years in jail Shobit Bansal, presiding over the MP-MLA court, handed down the maximum seven-year sentence to all three convicts. A fine of ₹15,000 was also awarded to all three of them January 3, 2019, BJP MLA Akash Saxena filed an FIR at the Ganj police station in Rampur, alleging that Azam Khan and his wife assisted their son in acquiring two counterfeit date of birth certificates, one from Lucknow and another from Rampur the certificate issued by the Rampur municipality, Abdullah Azam's date of birth was mentioned as January 1, 1993. The other certificate said he was born in Lucknow on September 30, 1990.
