Un Allocates Usd 20 Mln. In Aid Of Idp In Conflict-Hit Sudan
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, Aug 29 (KUNA) -- Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric said the UN set aside USD 20 million from the Central Emergency Response Fund to assist the growing number of internally displaced people (IDP) in need in Sudan
"Civilian displacement is continuing at an alarming rate and has now topped 4.5 million, and that includes 3.6 million people who are internally displaced," Dujarric said in a press conference on Tuesday.
"This new allocation builds on previsupport, bringing the total CERF funding for this crisis to USD 60 million.
"While humanitarian needs soar in Sudan, the funding remains critically low with 26 per cent of the USD 2.6 billion asked for the Humanitarian Response Plan having been received so far," the spokesperson added.
