Jordanian-Egyptian Joint Committee Session Results In 12 Agreements

(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - Jordan and Egypt on Monday in Amman signed 12 agreements and memoranda of understanding following the 31st session of the Jordanian-Egyptian Joint Higher Committee.

Representatives from each country signed a memorandum of understanding on economic policy, development and the exchange of planning expertise between Jordan's Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and the Egyptian Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

They signed a number of other agreements, including the seventh executive programme of the Labour Force Cooperation Convention for 2023-2024, in addition to an executive programme for technical cooperation in vocational training, also for the 2023-2024 period.

Representatives also signed a memo between the Jordan Securities Commission and the Egyptian Financial Supervisory Authority, along with an executive programme on environmental protection for the 2023-2025 period.

The two countries also inked a deal on an executive programme for the Social Affairs Cooperation Programme for 2023-2024, and agreed to implement a cooperation programme between the Jordan News Agency, Petra, and Egypt's Middle East News Agency. The two sides also established an executive programme on cultural cooperation for the 2023 to 2026 period.

Representatives also signed a MoU between Jordan's Social Security Corporation and Egypt's National Authority for Social Insurance.

Amman and Cairo also signed memos between their respective ministries of health and Awqaf ministries. The deals also featured an agreement between Jordanian Post Company and National Postal Authority of Egypt regarding e-payment for mail services.

Committee meeting chairs Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh and his Egyptian counterpart, Mostafa Madbouly, signed the minutes of the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, Khasawneh stressed that Jordanian-Egyptian relations are“an example to follow” in joint Arab action, with the two countries demonstrating keen and consistent collaboration on issues of mutual interest.

The prime minister said that both countries share the same vision to create sustainable and diversified economies that are competitive and resilient to global changes.

Following the meeting, the two premiers held a press briefing, during which they outlined the meeting's outcomes and the issues that had been discussed.

Khasawneh noted that the meeting touched upon the importance of the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Jordan, Egypt and Iraq. The prime minister informed Madbouly of the results of his visit to Baghdad two weeks ago, and his meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al Sudani.

The prime minister stressed that both countries see eye-to-eye on several political issues, including the shared stance that regional and international stability can only be achieved through a fair, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, which should entail the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders with occupied East Jerusalem as its capital, and preserve the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem and its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Khasawneh said that the talks addressed the need to double the capacity of the power line linking Jordan and Egypt and integrate gas infrastructure, which will benefit both countries.

For his part, Madbouly said that the meetings are part of the“strategic and historical” relations between the countries, noting that the two sides over the past few years have overcome most challenges facing the joint committee.

He also said that the two countries now aspire to cooperate on new projects in the fields of renewable energy, green hydrogen and green ammonia, among other mutually beneficial endeavours.

The Egyptian premier also expressed appreciation to His Majesty King Abdullah and the Jordanian government for the attention given to the Egyptian community in Jordan and for the Kingdom's efforts to rectify the status of undocumented Egyptian labourers in Jordan.
