(MENAFN) Niger's army chiefs declared on Sunday that they had shut down the nation`s airspace, cautioning that any effort to penetrate it would be met with an "energetic and immediate response".
The nation`s recent chiefs stated in a declaration that "faced with the threat of intervention, which is becoming clearer through the preparation of neighboring countries, Niger's airspace is closed from this day on Sunday … for all aircraft until further notice."
Niger edged closer to war on Sunday as the limit intimidating army interference established by the Economic Community of West African States perished.
Ecowas wants the leaders of the revolution, which took out the constitutionally elected leader, Mohamed Bazoum, and appointed Gen Abdourahamane Tchiani on July 30, to back off.
It is also requesting the freeing of Mr. Bazoum, who stated in an opinion article in a news agency the previous week that he was being held captive.
