2 Cops Killed As Armed Men Attack Polio Vaccination Team In Pakistan's Quetta
(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Officials said two policemen escorting a polio vaccination team were killed on Tuesday when armed men opened fire in Quetta's Nawa Killi. The incident occurred on the opening day of a seven-day campaign to vaccinate 2.6 million children under five in Balochistan against polio, Dawn reported.
The deceased Police officers were identified as Sayed Mohammad and Constable Shaukat Ali, according to Asif Marwat, the SHO at Zarghoonabad station.
The SHO said that none of the polio team members were injured during the attack. However, it added that the polio campaign in Nawa Killi and its surrounding area had been suspended.
Currently, no individual or organization has taken responsibility for the attack.
Earlier on Sunday, a suicide bomber attacked the Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) convention, causing a major explosion, killing more than 44 people and nearly 200 injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The explosion occurred in the province's Khar tehsil, killing a local JUI-F political leader.
Recently, the militants have increased their attacks in Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Punjab provinces, targeting police officers, ordinary people and foreigners.
However, this was the first time the militants targeted the Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl convention in the province.
Meanwhile, the Pakistani army has said that they are committed to eradicating the militants from the country and has increased their operations against them.
