Unifil Calls For Self-Restraint, De-Escalation In S. Lebanon

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, July 6 (KUNA) -- The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) urged everyone Thursday to practice restraint and avoid any measure that might further escalate the tensions.
In a statement, the UNIFIL said that it sent some soldiers after detecting some explosions near Al-Majidiya area, south Lebanon.
"UNIFIL peacekeepers detected explosions near Al-Majidiya. We could not confirm the origin or cause of the explosions at the time, but sent peacekeepers to investigate as the sounds were consistent with a possible rocket launch," it added.
"Around noon, we detected shelling from Israel to the Kafr Shouba area in Lebanon," it noted.
It indicated that its liaison mechanisms have been fully engaged to prevent further escalation.
Meanwhile, Lebanon's National News Agency said earlier that a missile was launched from Lebanon toward the Occupied Palestinian Territories that fell down in Lebanon, while Israel's artillery bombarded some parts south Lebanon. (end)
