Horwitz, whom police called as both Michael and ‘Norah’, was detained on Saturday and charged with second-degree murder, the Virginia Beach Police Department stated in a declaration.

Officers had replied to an urge of support, and found Horwitz’s father, Dr. Abbey Horwitz, on the ground from many stab injuries. He was declared dead hours afterwards.

Before his gender transition, Horwitz performed in Portland, Oregon, as a drag queen with the nickname ‘Menorah Horwitz’. Something of a domestic celebrity, Horwitz wrote a sequence of ‘Pride Month’ articles for the Portland Mercury six years ago, and issued an autobiographical graphic novel five years ago named ‘The Diary of Menorah Horwitz’.
