Khuzestan Province in Iran Witnesses Significant Non-Oil Exports Worth USD6.584 Billion

(MENAFN) According to an official from the customs department of Khuzestan province in southwest Iran, non-oil commodities with a total value of USD6.584 billion were exported from the region during the past Iranian calendar year of 1401, which concluded on March 20. The official, Behrouz Qareh-Beygi, highlighted that the exported goods weighed approximately 17.55 million tons, reflecting a seven-percent growth compared to the previous year.

Qareh-Beygi identified several key export categories, including petrochemicals, agricultural products, steel, construction materials, mechanical and electronic devices, as well as food and fishery items. The major export destinations for these commodities were the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, China, Southeast Asia, Turkey, Russia, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. This diversification of export markets indicates the province's efforts to expand its trade relations and tap into multiple international markets.

Additionally, the official reported that Khuzestan province witnessed the importation of 18.021 million tons of non-oil goods valued at USD10.677 billion during the previous year. Although there was a 12-percent decrease in weight compared to the preceding year, the value of imports experienced a five-percent increase. These import figures indicate the province's demand for various commodities to support its economic activities and meet domestic needs.

Furthermore, it was announced by the spokesman of the Trade Development Committee of the Iranian House of Industry, Mining, and Trade that Iran's overall non-oil export value had risen by 10 percent in the past year. This growth signifies the country's continued efforts to expand its export capabilities and reduce its reliance on oil revenue. The focus on non-oil exports aligns with Iran's broader economic strategy to diversify its economy, attract foreign investment, and boost trade relations with a wide range of countries.

The significant non-oil export figures from Khuzestan province highlight the region's economic importance and its contribution to Iran's overall trade performance. The province's ability to export various commodities to different destinations underscores its potential as a significant economic hub in southwest Iran. By leveraging its strengths in key sectors such as petrochemicals, agriculture, and manufacturing, Khuzestan province is playing a vital role in driving economic growth and promoting international trade for the country.
