Attack On Energy Plant Kills 6 Security Personnel In N. Pakistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, May 23 (KUNA) - At least six security personnel, including four Frontier Constabulary personnel, were killed in an attack by the militants targeting an energyplant in Pakistan's northern Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) bordering Afghanistan on Tuesday.
A senior Police official, Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Irfan Khan told media that the attack took place on a Hungarian-owned oil and gas exploration site in KPK's Hangu district.
He said that the attack by up to 50 terrorists took place at a plant run by the MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Company. "The soldiers bravely exchanged fire for two hours. Four personnel of the Frontier Constabulary and two from a private security company have been martyred in this attack," he added.
The DSP added that a heavy contingent of police and FC reached the area and initiated a search operation.
The militants also damaged a solar power plant at the gas power plant before fleeing to adjoining North Waziristan.
The attackers flee the area after the attack and the bodies of the security personnel have been shifted to the nearest military hospital. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. (end)
