(MENAFN) As Bulgaria prepares for its fifth round of early general elections in the past two years, 162 vote boxes will be set up in 20 provinces of Türkiye to allow Bulgarian citizens living in Türkiye to cast their ballots. According to Cevat Gunes, head of the Culture and Solidarity Association for Thrace and Balkan Turks, the objective of the elections is to ensure that Turks in Bulgaria have better living conditions and a higher standard of living. Gunes emphasized the importance of establishing a stable government to develop relations between Türkiye and Bulgaria.
Nearly 20 parties are participating in the elections in Bulgaria, but a government has not been formed due to a lack of sufficient deputies. This has led to frustration among citizens and politicians alike, as the country struggles to establish a stable government and address pressing social and economic issues.
Gunes highlighted the significant role that the Turkish community in Türkiye can play in the Bulgarian elections. With over 300,000 dual citizens and compatriots living in Türkiye eligible to vote in the Bulgarian elections, their participation could have a significant impact on the outcome of the elections. However, Gunes noted that voter turnout among the Turkish community in the past has been relatively low, with only 60-90 thousand individuals casting their ballots in the previous elections.
