Geneva: The State of Qatar reiterated the need to effectively prevent and respond to violence against children given the multiplicity of manifestations of that violence and its diversity through the internet and beyond, stressing that it has taken several measures to protect children against the dangers of the internet.

This came in the statement of the State of Qatar delivered by the Third Secretary of the permanent delegation of the State of Qatar in Geneva H E Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mansoori, during the interactive dialogue with the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children, within the framework of 52nd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Al Mansoori said that despite the great benefits offered by the digital environment for children to develop their capabilities and skills and promote their integration and communication in society, the unsafe use of the internet could result in a score of health, behavioural, and social risks, as well as immediate and future damages that threaten the welfare of children and impact the full enjoyment of their rights.

He pointed out that Qatar considers protecting children and guaranteeing their safety on the internet a collaborative responsibility in which individuals, society, and the state alike participate.
