Chicago Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Stabbing, Killing Ex-Girlfriend on Train Station Platform

(MENAFN) The Chicago Police Department has announced the arrest of a man who allegedly stabbed and killed his ex-girlfriend on a train station platform over the weekend. Alejandro Arellano, 31, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder in the death of 26-year-old Samantha Maldonado. The incident occurred on Saturday morning at the Adams and Wabash CTA station when Arellano followed Maldonado and allegedly stabbed her multiple times before boarding a train and going home.

Maldonado managed to push herself free from Arellano and run to the street before collapsing. She was taken to a local hospital but was pronounced dead. Prior to her death, Maldonado named her ex-boyfriend as her assailant. Arellano was arrested with the help of surveillance video footage from the CTA station less than 15 hours after the incident.

According to prosecutors, Arellano and Maldonado had been in a relationship for six months and had recently broken up. They had met at a local pub just one hour before the incident. Arellano has a prior criminal record, but the charges did not involve Maldonado, Chicago Police Chief of Detectives Antoinette Ursitti said on Monday.

Although Arellano is now in custody, the family of Samantha Maldonado is still grieving. Police First Deputy Supt. Eric Carter expressed his condolences to the family and hopes that knowing the person responsible for her death has been brought to justice brings a small measure of closure and peace. Arellano has been ordered held without bond Monday afternoon.
