Eintracht Frankfurt Fans Unable to Attend Champions League Match Against Napoli
(MENAFN) Eintracht Frankfurt has announced that they will not be allocating tickets for their fans for the UEFA Champions League last 16 match against Napoli on Wednesday. The decision comes after Italian authorities prevented the Naples club from selling tickets to away fans due to security concerns following altercations in the stands during the first leg of the match in Germany.
In a statement, the German club expressed their intention to appeal the decree of the prefecture of the City of Naples that prevents their fans from attending the match at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in Italy. The new decree does not allow Eintracht Frankfurt fans to support their club during the second leg of the match in Italy.
The club stated that the new decree is attempting to achieve what failed in the first instance. On Sunday evening, SSC Napoli was not allowed to sell tickets for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 second leg to anyone resident in Frankfurt am Main, which is an extension of the previous ban that only applied to residents of Germany.
The Italian authorities made the decision to prevent Napoli from selling tickets to residents in Germany due to security concerns following the altercations between the two clubs' fans during the first leg of the match on February 21. The Frankfurt police made several arrests.
Napoli beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in Frankfurt am Main, giving them a big advantage for the Champions League quarterfinals. The decision to prevent Eintracht Frankfurt fans from attending the second leg of the match is disappointing for the club and their supporters, but the safety of all those attending the match is of paramount importance.
