Relations With Lithuania 'Based On Mutual Respect' - Senate President


(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - Senate President Faisal Fayez on Monday met with Head of the Lithuanian-Jordanian Parliamentary Cooperation Group, Giedrius Surplys, and his accompanying delegation, over developing bilateral relations in the economic, Political and parliamentary fields.

Fayez commended the“high-level” of Jordanian-Lithuanian relations, characterising ties between the two countries as“based on mutual respect and shared interests”.

The Senate president also stressed the need to build economic partnerships and strengthen investment cooperation between the two nations, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Surplys praised the significant role of His Majesty King Abdullah in the region, as well as King Abdullah's continuous efforts to solve various regional issues and achieve peace. Surplys affirmed his country's keenness to enhance economic and investment ties with the Kingdom.

Also on Monday, First Deputy Lower House Speaker, Ahmad Khalaileh, met with Surplys, where the two sides discussed bolstering economic, commercial, industrial and cultural ties.

Surplys said that his country supports Jordan's position on the Palestinian issue, and the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem's holy sites. The official also called on the Israeli government to avoid provocations and resume negotiations to realise a comprehensive peace achieved through the two-state solution.

Lithuania seeks to increase commercial exchange with the Kingdom, Surplys added, noting that his country can benefit from Jordanian potash and increased cooperation in the chemical and medicine industries.
