(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- Kuwait is eager to improve its energy relations with Arab countries given the market expansion around the wider region, an official said on Monday, citing the exponential growth in global renewable energy capacity.
Forging closer ties would enable countries with a 'surplus' of power generation capacity to share some of it with others more in need, according to Kuwaiti Electricity and Water Acting Undersecretary Mutlaq Al-Otaibi.
Heading Kuwait's delegation to pan-Arab talks on energy cooperation in the Egyptian capital, the official underlined the need to develop a 'joint' energy market in the wider Arab region, which will be instrumental in promoting exchange.
Plans to develop power interconnection systems linking Arab states are making progress, added the official, saying it was necessary to ensure adequate supply in light of 'soaring' global prices. (end)
