Driver arrested, facing multiple charges after fatal crash with bicyclists in Arizona

(MENAFN) Suspect Pedro Quintana-Lujan, 26, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts, including two counts of manslaughter, following a crash in Goodyear, Arizona, that left two cyclists dead and 11 others injured. The tragic incident occurred when Quintana-Lujan was driving a pickup truck and crashed into a large group of bicyclists on the Cotton Lane Bridge at approximately 8 a.m. on Saturday. One female cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, and another passed away after being transported to a local hospital. Meanwhile, 11 others were injured and taken to three different hospitals, with one still in critical condition as of Sunday evening, according to Goodyear police.

Although Quintana-Lujan stayed at the scene of the crash and cooperated with law enforcement on the day of the incident, he is now facing several charges. These include three counts of aggravated assault, 18 counts of endangerment, and two counts of causing serious injury or death by a moving violation, according to The Associated Press.

The names of the victims have not yet been made public, but police did reveal that one of the cyclists who lost their life was a Goodyear resident, while the other was visiting from out of state. The Cotton Lane Bridge remained closed for several hours on Saturday while the crash was being investigated.

Goodyear police have expressed their condolences to the families and friends of the victims. Meanwhile, Quintana-Lujan is being held on a $1 million bond, and his next court appearance is scheduled for March 5. The case is still under investigation, and further details will likely be released in due course.
