U.S. President Joe Biden rules out sending F-16s to Ukraine for now
(MENAFN) U.S. President Joe Biden has stated that the United States will not be sending advanced F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine "for now." Biden made this announcement during an interview with ABC News, according to Ukrinform.
When asked about the need for F-16s for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Biden replied that he believes Zelensky does not need F-16s at present. However, he did not completely rule out the possibility of providing F-16s in the future, saying that it is impossible to know exactly what the Ukrainian defense will require.
Biden elaborated that according to the current military assessment, there is no justification for providing F-16s to Ukraine. He further stated that he is ruling out the possibility of sending F-16s to Ukraine "for now."
The United States has provided Ukraine with military assistance, including lethal weapons such as Javelin anti-tank missiles, to help the country defend itself against Russian aggression. Ukraine has been engaged in a conflict with Russian-backed separatists in the Donbas region since 2014. The conflict has claimed over 13,000 lives and displaced over 1.6 million people.
