Syrian, Turkish Embassy Flags At Half-Mast To Mourn Earthquake Victims

Doha: To mourn the loss of lives due to the deadly earthquakes in both Syria and Türkiye, the national embassies in Qatar have lowered their flags to half-mast.

The Syrian embassy in Qatar shared a picture on its official social media channels stating that it would be flying its flag at half-mast in mourning the victims of the devastating earthquake that hit both the northern parts of Syria and the southern parts of Türkiye .

The Turkish embassy in Doha also shared a post on social media, following the declaration of national mourning, stating that the Turkish flag would be lowered to half-mast at the embassy until February 12.

In a tweet yesterday, the Turkish embassy appreciated the quick response provided by Qatar stating, 'We deeply appreciate our Qatari friends' initiative for providing 10,000 mobile homes as part of their relief efforts to Türkiye aftermath of devastating earthquake.'

On Monday, February 6, 2023, Türkiye and Syria both experienced powerful quakes that have so far claimed over 4,800 lives in both the countries at the moment of writing this report.

Some of the heaviest devastation in Türkiye occurred near the quake's epicentre between Kahramanmaras and Gaziantep; a city of two million where entire blocks now lie in ruins under gathering snow.

Meanwhile, the Syrian health ministry reported damage across the provinces of Aleppo, Latakia, Hama and Tartus.
