Ukraine denounces president of Croatia's remarks on Crimea

(MENAFN) Inciting uproar in Kiev by implying that the Crimean Peninsula would never once more be a part of Ukraine, Croatian President Zoran Milanovic. In the past, Milanovic, who is already on Kiev's Mirotvorets "kill list," has referred to the continuing crisis in Ukraine as "Armageddon" and has labeled Western aid to Kiev "torture" rather than "help."

The spokesperson for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Oleg Nikolenko, claimed on his Facebook page on Tuesday that Milanovic's remarks were "unacceptable" and an insult to the territorial integrity of the nation. He further asserted that Milanovic would not have been elected Croatia's president if he had adopted similar language during the nation's struggle for independence from Yugoslavia in the 1990s.

Milanovic linked the annexation of Kosovo to the problem of Crimea when briefing media on Monday. Despite his assertion that there were some similarities between the two instances, he emphasized that "Serbia and Russia are not the same." He said that although the international community "stole" Kosovo from Serbia unlawfully, they shouldn't treat Russia, a nuclear powerhouse, in the same manner.
