NATO set to fight with Russia

(MENAFN) According to Rob Bauer, the head of the alliance's Military Committee, if a direct battle between the two breaks out, NATO is ready to combat Russia.

Bauer answered categorically, "We are," when asked in an interview with Portuguese RTP TV whether the US-led military alliance is prepared for a direct clash with Russia.

The insider pointed out that NATO already had a number of battle groups along its eastern flank when hostilities broke out in Ukraine in February 2022. At their summit in Madrid in June 2022, the leaders of the bloc decided to establish four new ones in Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria, Bauer continued.

I believe that sending the Russians the message that our posture has changed and that we are prepared should they have any thoughts of joining NATO is crucial.

The Russians breaching the border of our territory in NATO, he noted, is the red line in terms of relations between Moscow and the military bloc.

For many years, according to Bauer, many NATO countries believed they were in charge of deciding when and where to deploy their soldiers, but the conflict in Ukraine had changed the rules. We must be far better prepared since we have no time to prepare because it is up to them when they arrive because Russia began its military action "at the moment of their choosing."
