National Anti-Drug Campaign Launched

Khartoum, Jan.6 (Sudanow) - President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces General Abdel- Fattah Al-Burhan chaired LAST WEEK at the General Command a meeting that included the Attorney General, the Chairperson of the National Campaign for Combating Drugs, Dr. Al-Jizouli Dafallah, Ministers of Justice, Interior, Higher Education and Education and Wali (Governor) of Khartoum State besides leaderships of security organs.

His Excellency noted that the aim of the meeting was to lead a national campaign to combat drugs abuse and circulation, which has become imminent threat to the future of young people, and pointed out that international organizations had provided financial support to some youth organizations in order to support transition issues, but these supports were used to promote drug abuse among youth, which requires that the state lead in all its sectors real and great action that curbs this dangerous phenomenon and brings tangible results.

His Excellency assured the attendees that the country's leadership and the Armed Forces will strive to safe the youth of the country from this imminent danger.


His Excellency directed urgent formation of specialized committees at the federal, state and local levels to deal with the phenomenon within the framework of a major national campaign that is launched from today under the slogan of“A Sudan Free of addiction by the end of the year 2023.

His Excellency also announced his adoption of projects to rehabilitate addiction treatment centers within the activities of this campaign, while accompanying all sectors of Sudanese society, as well as civil society organizations, scholars and those concerned with this matter.

For his part, acting Minister of Interior, General (police) Annan Hamed, said that the police had managed to seize large quantities of drugs and their dealers, and that their efforts would continue within the framework of this campaign to eliminate these phenomena, which is alien to the Sudanese society.


It is noteworthy that the national anti-drug campaign was launched today under the auspices of the President of the Sovereignty Council, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and it will continue throughout the current year until December 31, 2023.
