Israel’s Netanyahu supports debatable judicial reforms against demonstrations
(MENAFN) Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu has protected controversial judicial reforms offered by Justice Minister Yariv Levin, stating that the improvements target to "represent the voter's will."
"The claim that judicial reform is the end of democracy is baseless,” Netanyahu stated that throughout his Sunday cabinet gathering.
“The balance between the executive, legislative, and judicial powers has been violated in the past two decades, and more rapidly over the past few years,” he also mentioned.
In line with Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, Levin aims to finish by the end of January the groundwork of draft laws needed to move forward in his reforms, amid submitting them to the Knesset (Israel’s parliament).
On Saturday evening, thousands protested in Tel Aviv, involving present and previous Knesset associate, to show objection in contradiction of the planned judicial reforms.
"Netanyahu's government threatens to destroy the entire constitutional structure of the State of Israel," previous premier Yair Lapid published in a tweet.
