Germany rejects having intentions to purchase Russian oil

(MENAFN) According to Germany's economy ministry's press department, the nation does not intend to purchase Russian oil in the next year. The declaration contradicts a previous statement made by Transneft, a state-owned pipeline transport firm that runs the Druzhba pipeline's Russian segment.

Despite prior promises from both nations that they wouldn't place fresh contracts, Transneft CEO Nikolai Tokarev announced on Monday that his business has received requests to pump oil via the Druzhba pipeline to Poland and Germany in the next year.

According to the German government, the Schwedt refinery began scheduling capacity in the pipeline system for Kazakh oil rather than Russian oil in January.

The press staff for the ministry stated in a statement, “the refineries in Leuna and Schwedt will no longer order Russian oil in the new year.”

An official from the ministry told RIA, “thus, it is not a request for oil, but a reservation for the transportation of oil, which is necessary, for example, to pass the Kazakh oil.”
