Qatar To Play Second Friendly Against Egypt In Preparation For IHF Men's World Championship 2023

DOHA: Qatar handball national team will play another friendly game on Thursday against Egypt in Cairo after their Tuesday's 21-18 loss, as part of both sides' preparations for the 28th IHF Men's World Championship 2023 in Poland and Sweden.

The championship will kick off on January 11 and runs until January 29.

In October, Qatar played two friendlies against Tunisia, and they will play two other friendlies with Montenegro on January 3 and January 5 in Doha.

This will be Qatar's ninth appearance in the championship after Portugal 2003, Tunisia 2005, Germany 2007, Spain 2013, Qatar 2015, France 2017 Germany and Denmark 2019, and Egypt 2021. They claimed silver in Qatar 2015 as their best-ever result in the championship history.

They qualified for this edition after finishing atop Group A in the main round of the 20th Asian Men's Championship, which was held in January in Saudi Arabia.

In the IHF Men's World Championship 2023, Qatar was drawn in Group E, along with Germany, Serbia and Algeria.

The other groups of the championship are as follows: Group A included Spain, Montenegro, Chile and Iran. Group B included France, Poland, Saudi Arabia and Slovenia. Group C comprised Sweden, Brazil, Cape Verde and Uruguay.

Group D included Iceland, Portugal, Hungary and South Korea. Group F comprised Norway, North Macedonia, Argentina and the Netherlands. Group G included Egypt, Croatia, Morocco and America, while Group H included Denmark, Belgium, Bahrain and Tunisia.
