Kuwaiti Surgeon Conducts 1St Robotic-Assisted Gastric Bypass


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Dec 5 (KUNA) -- Dr. Mishari Al-Mehanna, a Kuwaiti plastic surgeon, conducted, in collaboration with a Taiwanese bariatric surgeon, a successful Robotic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RARYGB) surgery on Monday.
This successful RARYGB, the first of its kind in the Gulf region, is a great achievement that falls in the framework of vision of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health to modernize the healthcare system, Dr. Al-Mehanna told KUNA.
He noted that the RARYGB procedure was conducted at Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital on the sidelines of the 13th Asian conference on type 2 diabetes surgery.
The patient, in the 40s of his age, suffers from arteriosclerosis and other chronic diseases, Dr. Al-Mehanna noted, adding that the RARYGB is frequently used in modern countries due to its great impact in controlling obesity and diabetes. (end)
