German FM: UNHRC To Discuss Human Rights Situation In Iran

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Nov 14 (KUNA) -- German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock Monday said that Germany together with 16 other countries was able to include the human rights situation in Iran on the agenda of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Speaking to reporters ahead of EU foreign ministers meeting in Brussels, she said the ministers will decide on a new sanctions package on Iran that will include individuals from the inner power circle and the Revolutionary Guard and the structures that support it.
In reply to a question on the listing of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corp in the EUآ's terrorist list, she replied 'the revolutionary guards are responsible for the incredible crimes committed in Iran and we have also to look at the question of terrorism.'
'However, this is not only a political declaration. This has to be based on the rule of law. We have clear sanctions system here in the EU also with regard to terrorist listing. That is why we have to look at every single case so carefully,' she added. (end)
