Sharm El sheikh – Egyptian airline EgyptAir is assessing the installation of an ecologically friendly hangar to maintain large aircraft. Studies are being carried out to finance the work, and site selection is already underway. Engineer Yehia Zakaria (pictured above), president of EgyptAir Holding Company, gave the information in an exclusive interview with ANBA at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP27), which is taking place in Egypt.

According to the executive, the location for the project is being chosen between two options. The first is Cairo International Airport, and the second the New Administrative Capital of Egypt. But it is likely, according to preliminary studies, the hangar will be at Cairo International Airport. He estimates the project will start operating three years after feasibility studies and implementation.

Zakaria pointed out the new hangar will hold about three large aircraft and also have a space for painting. As for EgyptAir's engine workshop, it works with high efficiency and demonstrated growth in several partnerships and cooperatives, according to him.

The executive said the company had a sustainable development plan for reducing carbon emissions and using clean energy, considering solar energy will gradually be used to power Egypt's airports.

Regarding nonstop flights between Cairo and São Paulo, the president of EgyptAir said the feasibility study for the operation was concluded, having been submitted to the Presidency of Egypt, awaiting its signature. Zakaria hopes a nonstop flight between the two countries can be implemented in the short term.
