(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) A senior commander of outlawed Islamic State Khurasan (IS-K) was killed while three others were arrested in injured condition during a joint operation of Counter Terrorism Department and security forces in the Jamrud tehsil of Khyber district early on Monday.
A CTD statement issued here said that a jawan was martyred during the operation while a captain was also injured.
The operation was launched on a tip-off about the presence of militants in the Ghareeza area of Jamrud who were planning to carry out a major terrorist attack in Peshawar.
When personnel of CTD and security forces besieged the house where the terrorists were hiding, the miscreants opened fire on security personnel, which martyred a jawan and injured a captain.
The exchange of fire between security forces and militants continued for three hours and a search and clearance operation was launched afterwards. During the operation, a terrorist commander Liaqat Ali was killed while three others were held trying to flee the scene in injured condition.
Sources said that commander Liaqat was a senior leader outlawed IS-K and was also involved in recent grenade attack on Regi Model Town police station, martyrdom of FC solider in Alamgodar area of Khyber, martyrdom of a police officer in Nowshera and injuring two others and martyrdom of a police constable in Mathra.
In addition to this, the slain terrorist was also involved in martyrdom another cop in Khazana, grenade attack on police in Karkhano and other heinous crimes well.
CTD personnel recovered heavy arms and explosives from the possession of terrorists while a search and clearance operation was underway in the areas.
