Russia calls UN investigation into Ukrainian biolabs

(MENAFN) Russia is requesting that the United Nation Security Council create a committee to look into claims that the United States and Ukraine have violated the treaty banning the manufacture or use of biological weapons.

Tuesday's statement was made by the Russian envoy to the United Nation, “we requested a meeting in two days in line with Article VI of the Biological Weapons Convention.”

A draft resolution and "a variety of documents and evidence that shed light on the true nature of military biological activities of the US and Ukraine on the Ukrainian territory" were distributed by Vassily Nebenzia, the ambassador of Moscow, ahead of a meeting scheduled for Thursday.

Russia was compelled to use Article VI of the agreement to bring up the concerns with the Security Council after Washington and Kiev mainly disregarded its repeated requests. who, according to Nebenzia, "have not provided necessary explanations, nor have they taken immediate measures to remedy the situation."
