Imran Khan Disqualified In Toshakhana Reference

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disqualified Pakistan Tehrik Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan in toshakhana reference case for making false declarations of his assets

A four member ECP bench, headed the Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in a unanimous judgment announced the disqualification of former Prime Minister on Friday afternoon.

The bench has noted in its verdict that Mr Khan has ceased to be a Member of National Assembly and the responses submitted by him were not correct.

It said that PTI chief has been involved in corrupt practices and his NA seat have been declared vacant.

Earlier strict security measures were put in place in anticipation of the verdict around the ECP headquarters and police personnel with tear gas were also deployed.

Capital police had also deployed over 1100 police personnel to ensure peace. Besides, Frontier Constabulary and Rangers personnel have also been deployed.

The toshakhana reference stated that former premier received gifts worth over Rs 140 million from while gifts worth Rs 30000 were obtained after payment.

The document said that PTI chief had made payment of Rs 38 million for these gifts while no payment was made for gifts worth Rs 800,000.

First lady Bushra Khan received a necklace, earrings, ring and braclet worth Rs 5.8 million for Rs 2.9 million while the Mr Khan purchased pen, cuff links, ring and pen at over Rs 20 million.

The reference stated that the real price of items purchased by Mr Khan was over Rs 85 million. The cuff links were valued at Rs. 5.6 million; pen Rs 1.5 million and ring at Rs 8.7 million.

Mr Khan, according to the documents purchased a watch worth Rs 1.5 million at paltry Rs 294,000 and perfumes, watches, IPhone and suits worth Rs 1.7 million for Rs 338,000 and Oud boxes and prayer beads at the rate of Rs 240,000.

Similarly, Mr Khan also paid Rs 935,000 for a watch valued at Rs 1.9 million while a diamond necklace, earrings, ring and golden bracelet valued at Rs 1 million at the Rs 544,000. Besides, he also paid Rs 2.4 million for watch, cuff links and ring valued at Rs 4.9 million.
