Doha: President of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), Dr Eng Saad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi said that it had received a lot of criticism as a result of temporary disturbances created by some projects, but it has been working on over 330 projects and some of these criticism helped them improve their service.

Speaking to Qatar TV, Al Muhannadi revealed for the first time that they are managing about 330 projects with only 5% of these being delayed. 'The number of defaulting contractors does not exceed 15 to 20 contractors, which is less than 5% of Ashghal projects,' he added.

He also spoke of the introduction of new devices added to its work that reduce disturbances in neighbourhood, saying, 'Ashghal has utilised devices to reduce disturbances [noises] resulted by the ongoing projects, and this came as a result of Ashghal's efforts to reduce the effects of infrastructure projects in residential areas.'

'I am proud of all the achievements made by Qatari cadres, and we were able to reach a 135 percent increase in the number of Qatari cadres in Ashghal during the past four years. The Qatari engineering staff has increased by 160 percent, and we have about 530 male and female engineers and approximately 600 Qatari administrative staff,” he said.

The standards adopted in Qatar for infrastructure are in line with international standards, and due to its various projects the impact of rain will be less in the coming years, he added.
