Community Days Festival Opens At Flag Plaza

The Community Days Festival at the newly opened Flag Plaza started yesterday, which features cultural performances from various countries.

The programme is part of the Year of Culture initiative, which is celebrating its 10-year anniversary in 2022. Year of Culture is a rich and varied exchange programme, seeing Qatar partnering with a different nation each calendar year to work together to enjoy, enhance each country's creative, cultural and artistic offerings. This year, it partnered with the entire Middle East, North Africa, South Asia (MENASA) region.

Yesterday's cultural performances were by India, Ghana, and Ecuador. Indian Ambassador to Qatar H E Dr. Deepak Mittal told The Peninsula on the sidelines of the event that the festival is an avenue to showcase his country's rich culture. 

There were six dance performances by the Indian community coming from six states.

“The performances are quite diverse and we'll be able to showcase India's diversity and plurality through the display of cultural performances,” said the envoy.

Ambassador Mittal lauded the opening of Flag Plaza, describing it as a“melting pot.”“I think the Flag Plaza will be a melting pot for different cultures and provide opportunities to communities to experience the vibrancy of Qatar.”

The Flag Plaza was opened on Wednesday and featured 119 flags representing nations with diplomatic missions accredited by the country, and also the European Flag, the United Nations Flag and the Gulf Cooperation Council Flag.

Food trucks are available in the area, offering foods from the continents of Africa, Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. Coffee and Juice trucks are likewise in place for refreshments.

The Community Days Festival will run until October 15, Today's performances will be from Japan and Somalia; Tomorrow, October 8: Lebanon, Greece, Malaysia, Libya; October 9: Eritrea, Yemen; October 10: Cuba, Palestine, Nepal, Greece; October 11: Kenya, Algeria, Sri Lanka, Syria; October 12: Yemen, Iraq, Tunisia, Turkey. October 13: UN, Egypt, France, Italy; October 14: Sudan, Ukraine, Indonesia, Philippines, Ecuador; and October 15: Morocco, Palestine, Russia, Pakistan, and Thailand. The daily performances will take place on stage from 4pm until 9pm.
