The 8am daily , one of the prominent daily newspapers of Afghanistan accuses the Taliban for blocking its .AF website which went offline on Monday.
The links to the 15-year-old archived stories of 8am daily newspaper went inaccessible and broke as the newspaper administration claims that its website domain which was hosted under the Afghanistan Ministry of Telecommunication has been blocked.
According to a press release published through the newspaper's social media accounts, the Taliban's administration has suspended the web domain due to political reasons.
The newspaper has also announced that its new contents will be available on the newly-registered domain.
According to online analytical tools, breaking of the webpage links will dramatically harm its searching engine rankings as a result of which the website will lose online web traffics.
Parwiz Kawa, a journalist and former editor for 8am daily has called it an attempt by the Taliban to suppress free media in Afghanistan.
8am daily is a prominent Persian Afghan daily newspaper which was established by well-known journalists 15 years ago. The newspaper closed its local office in Afghanistan after the collapse of Afghanistan's republic administration last August, however, it kept publishing dozens of stories from Afghanistan on a daily basis.
Closes sources to 8am daily confirms that the media outlet has been recently registered in Canada with a mission to cover stories mainly from Afghanistan.
This comes as hundreds of media outlets and journalism institutions were closed in Afghanistan following the collapse of the country into the hands of the Taliban last year.
