Gas begins flooding to Poland by new Baltic Pipe pipeline

(MENAFN) Natural gas began flooding to Poland by the new Baltic Pipe pipeline from Norway through Denmark, Polish gas pipeline operator Gaz-System stated on Saturday.

Gaz-System wrote on Twitter that this is a "historic" day for the nation's energy sector.

The pipeline which has a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters for each year, is a significant element of the Polish plan to expand its energy imports away from Russia.

The flood from Norway along with deliveries through LNG terminals is essential to Poland's energy security strategy.

In April, the country's access to Russian gas was cut off as it refused expenditures in rubles.
The project has been prepared in cooperation between the Danish gas and power transmission system operator Energinet and the Gaz-System.

The Baltic Pipe contains five main components, counting the North Sea offshore pipeline, an onshore pipeline in Denmark, a compressor station in Denmark, the Baltic Sea offshore pipeline, and Onshore Poland.
