Qatar Participates In ITU PP-22 Conference

Bucharest: Qatar, represented by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), on Monday participated in the opening session of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-22), hosted by the Romanian capital Bucharest from September 26 to October 14.

Qatar's delegation at the opening of the conference was headed by the Ambassador of Qatar to Romania H E Osama bin Yousef Al Qaradawi.

In a speech delivered during the opening session of the conference, HE ITU Secretary-General Houlin Zhao, stressed the importance of this event, to formulate ITU's general policies, and identify member states' trends toward digital transformation for the coming years, in service of the people of the world.

Zhao said that the conference is vital, being an opportunity for the Union's member states to present their proposals and visions on the most vital sectors in the world: the telecommunications sector, information technology and digital transformation.

The ITU Secretary-General pointed out that the event is also an opportunity to review the progress made in the telecommunications sector and digital transformation in member states, as well as to learn about the pioneering experiences and initiatives in the field, benefit from common experiences and build on them to bring about the required change.

The Plenipotentiary Conference is ITU's supreme policy-making body and is the largest international global meeting of policymakers in the ICT sector. The conference meets once every four years to set the general policies of the Union, adopt strategic and financial plans for the next four years, and elect the organization's senior management team, member states of the Council, and members of the Radio Regulations Board.

This conference is held to determine the strategic direction of the Union and to develop policies and recommendations that address the evolving needs of the members of ITU.
