Qatar Stresses Solidarity With Group Of 77 States

New York: The State of Qatar participated in the 46th annual meeting of Foreign Ministers of the member states of the Group of 77 and China, chaired by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The State of Qatar was represented at the meeting by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H E Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.

In the statement of the State of Qatar to the meeting, he stressed that Qatar will always work within the principles of solidarity and multilateral action, and will continue to adhere to the goals and priorities of the Group of 77 and China, in a way that serves the common interest of the group and achieves its goals. 

He affirmed the State of Qatar's keenness as an active member of the group in realising the latter's aspirations as Qatar recognises the importance of multilateral cooperation, and commitment to values based on the principles of solidarity and partnership. He said that the State of Qatar has taken many steps that confirm its commitment to strengthening cooperation and coordination, noting that it hosted the second South Summit in 2005, which reflects its political will to consolidate this cooperation and unify efforts to achieve common goals, expressing Qatar's aspiration to participate in the third South Summit that will be hosted by Uganda.

He highlighted the State of Qatar's commitment to continuing its diplomatic efforts and distinguished relations at the regional and international levels, and supporting international efforts to enhance international peace and security, noting that at a time when we are witnessing an increase in conflicts and tensions around the world, and the continuing negative repercussions of the pandemic, the climate crisis, the food and fuel crisis and the growing humanitarian needs, a country has not hesitated Qatar has refused to play its role in providing aid, and has continued to strengthen its strategic partnership with the United Nations system, as it ranks among the major countries supporting it in various fields.

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs stressed that the Qatar Fund for Development expanded the scope of its response, and provided many development projects and humanitarian assistance to more than 80 countries around the world, where millions of people benefited from them, recalling in this regard that the Qatar Fund for Development contributed in 2021 with more than $551m in its development projects and humanitarian aid, in cooperation with strategic partners.

He said that Qatar welcomes the Arab Republic of Egypt's, one of the members of the group, hosting of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27) next November, expressing his hope that the upcoming conference would lead to take concrete and ambitious measures that contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change.
