Three-Quarters Of Donetsk Region Residents Already Evacuated


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Three-quarters of the residents of Donetsk region have already been evacuated. A total of 5,575 people have left the region since the beginning of the mandatory evacuation campaign.

'Most residents of the region, almost three-quarters of the population, have been evacuated. A quarter of the population remains, but the evacuation continues after the adoption of the government's order of August 2. Since the beginning of the mandatory evacuation, 5,575 people have already been evacuated,' Pavlo Kyrylenko, Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, said during the national telethon.

He noted that the pace of transporting people to safe regions will increase if possible. An awareness raising campaign is constantly conducted so that people know where they are going and what help, from financial to moral and psychological, they can get.

As reported, the mandatory evacuation of the population of Donetsk region began on August 2.

On July 29, the Cabinet of Ministers created the Coordination Headquarters, which will deal with the organization of evacuation from Donetsk region. It was headed by Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister for Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories.

The evacuation of residents of government-controlled areas of Donetsk region is expected to last until the start of the heating season.

By the autumn-winter period, no more than 235,000 people involved in the defense and maintenance of critical infrastructure should remain in Donetsk region, the rest should be evacuated.

Until February 24, 1,670,000 people lived in Donetsk region permanently.
