UFC president rejects Khabib

(MENAFN) Khabib Nurmagomedov, the undefeated former lightweight champion, is not among the top five fighters in UFC history, according to president Dana White, who also provides an explanation for why he would reject claims that the Russian is the "GOAT" of his sport.

After an emotional submission victory over Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in Abu Dhabi in October 2020, Khabib announced the end of his unblemished cage career.

The Dagestani star promised his mother he wouldn't compete after his mentor and father, Abdulmanap, passed away earlier that year as a result of complications from Covid.

Despite White's and others' best efforts to persuade "The Eagle" to return to the Octagon for a chance at the legendary 30-0 mark, he has remained true to his word. Since then, Khabib has concentrated his efforts on developing his own Eagle FC promotion and training fighters like current 155-pound title contender Islam Makhachev.
