Japanese sailor gets wounded after getting stabbed at WWII memorial in Solomon Islands


(MENAFN) An associate of Japan's Maritime Self-Defense military was killed by a stab on Monday at a memorial service marking the 80th anniversary of the World War II Clash of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands capital Honiara.

The Japanese mariner dealt with a small damage to the neck after he was targeted from the back by a native man and cut with what seemed to be a pair of scissors, as stated by the Japanese Embassy in the Solomon Islands.

U.S. military workers attending the service rushed and held the assailant, who was after on taken into the charge of local forces, in line with a report by Radio New Zealand. A reason behind the stabbing is not yet known.

The embassy stated that the sailor was aided with stitches at a nearby clinic and is doing great.

The memorial ceremony was held by the Solomon Islands administration at Bloody Ridge in Honiara, in addition to that It was joined by senior officials from the United States, Japan, Australia as well as New Zealand.
