Badghis Residents Want Govt To Create Job Opportunities

QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): A number of residents of northern Badghis province complain of unemployment, urging the interim government to create job opportunities.

After the previous government collapsed in August 2021, the international community cut off aid to Afghanistan and the US froze the central bank's assets. The situation fuelled poverty in the entire country, including Badghis.

Gulabuddin, a resident of Qala-i-Naw, told Pajhwok Afghan News most of youth had been rendered jobless by the recent developments. Many have been forced into migrating to foreign countries.

He said before the current government came to power, he worked for an NGO. But currently, he is unemployed — caught in a dire economic situation.

“We urge the government to pave the way for youth getting work and income sources. Thus, our youth won't need to go abroad,” he added.

Mohammad Nasir, another resident, claimed that increasing unemployment and poverty had created a whole a host of problems for youngsters.

But Maulvi Tor Jan Khademi, director of information and culture, said they had launched programmes such as mobile phone repairs, tailoring, wool spinning and motorcycle workshops. Many young people trained in these areas had found jobs in the market, he added.

According to Khademi, with the implementation of these programmes, many young people and families will find sources of income and will be saved from poverty and migration.
